The video posted here is a recording of "Chuji Kunisada" performed in Tokyo in May 2023 by the "Wakajishikai".
"Chuji Kunisada" is a story about outlaws who actually existed in the Kanto region during the Edo period.
The Chuji family in the Jyoshu region, who sometimes committed crimes in order to save poor farmers, has long been widely known through storytelling and books.
The story was adapted for the stage in 1919 by the Shinkokugeki (New National Theather), based on an adaptation by Rifu Yukitomo.
This production is a modern revival of the "Shinkokugeki" performance.
